Sacramento came about as a result of Swiss Immigrant John Sutter and James W. Marshall and was established and protected for by Sutter's Fort in the first half of the 19th Century. It quickly became a commercial center, agricultural hub and distribution center point.

Sacramento was originally occupied by Red Indian tribes who have left little or no evidence of their presence in the region. John Sutter established a trading post after coming from Switzerland and settling in Sacramento area.

Located at the Hastings Building in the Old Sacramento Park in Sacramento City this museum boasts of exhibits such as an Authentic copy machine from the 19th century, Howard & Davis Gold Scales and a safe for storing gold.

California Constitution Wall

Standing over 6 stories high is the California Constitution Wall designed by artists Larry Sultan, Paul Kos and Mike Mandel. The Wall was a collaborative effort and built by Esherick, Homsey, Dodge and Davis and the Frederick Meiswinkel Inc.

The specialty of the wall apart from its height is the fact that keeping true to the spirit of the ever changing constitution this wall is also embedded with metal oxides on its surface. Since time brings about a change in the colors making it appropriate as a representation of the Californian constitution.
