Sacramento owes its existence to the efforts of a Swiss Immigrant John Sutter who was instrumental in putting it on the map. Tip 2 - K Street Mall is for the shoppers, foodies and movie goers. All people who wish to visit Sacramento and have a good time with their families shouldn't give the K Street Shopping Mall area a miss.

Tip 3 - One of the first art museums in the west, the Crocker Art Museum has collections such as Asian Art, American and European Art, Photography and much more. Crocker was a privately held museum for a long time before opening its doors to the public in 1885.

Tip 4 - All those who would to visit the Old real west of the mid 1800s in its heydays should visit one of the last remnants from that era. Old Sacramento still retains its old world charm. There are museums, sightseeing options, landmarks and theaters one can choose from while visiting Old Sacramento. Currently a historic district with over 50 surviving buildings this is a must visit.

Tip 5 - Host to more than 400 animals Sacramento Zoo this is one of the biggest zoos in the country. It has grown from its original 4.2 acres to 14.3 acres presently. Since 1927 this zoo has grown from strength to strength and conducts conservation programs, classes and camps to inform young children on the importance of animals, conservation classes and much more.

Discovery Park

Discovery Park in Sacramento, California is located at the meeting point of the Sacramento River and the American River just outside Downtown Sacramento and beside I-5. The park is spread over a sprawling area of 160 acres.

An important Sacramento travel tip may include a visit to this park for participating in several fun-filled activities, which include motor boating, fishing, swimming, kayaking/canoeing, bird watching, nature walking and observation.

The park is open to visitors all through the year from sunrise to sunset and flaunts bike trails, a playground and reserved picnic areas. Parking fees are collected on all days of a year. The boat launch at the Discovery Park permits the boaters to access both the American River as well as the Sacramento River.

Tourists are offered parking facilities at the paved lot in the park. If you want to enjoy a picnic at the park, there are facilities like a turf area, picnic tables, and barbecue grills. If anyone is interested in boating, the facilities included are boat ramps, boat trailer parking, and boat dock. For pedestrian access, Discovery Park provides paved walkways and trails for walking. The Discovery Park is indeed a complete recreational venue for tourists of all age groups.

Visitors can gain access to an informational kiosk when inside the park. Other facilities include bathrooms with flush toilets and sink, as well as water facilities like portable water provisions and drinking fountains.
