Sacramento owes its existence to the efforts of a Swiss Immigrant John Sutter who was instrumental in putting it on the map. The city shares its history with the Gold Rush Phenomenon that came about in the mid 1800s. Now a city with more choices then one can think of when it comes to food, fun and frolic.

Tip 1 - A visit to the Sutter's Fort in Sacramento is for those who loved that part of American history that is entwined with memories of the Gold Rush. Sutter's Fort has a collection of artifacts from that era. Currently a State Historic Park the fort has been renovated recently and is visited by thousands of people each year.

Tip 2 - K Street Mall is for the shoppers, foodies and movie goers. All people who wish to visit Sacramento and have a good time with their families shouldn't give the K Street Shopping Mall area a miss.

Tip 3 - One of the first art museums in the west, the Crocker Art Museum has collections such as Asian Art, American and European Art, Photography and much more. Crocker was a privately held museum for a long time before opening its doors to the public in 1885.

Tip 4 - All those who would to visit the Old real west of the mid 1800s in its heydays should visit one of the last remnants from that era. Old Sacramento still retains its old world charm. There are museums, sightseeing options, landmarks and theaters one can choose from while visiting Old Sacramento. Currently a historic district with over 50 surviving buildings this is a must visit.

Tip 5 - Host to more than 400 animals Sacramento Zoo this is one of the biggest zoos in the country. It has grown from its original 4.2 acres to 14.3 acres presently. Since 1927 this zoo has grown from strength to strength and conducts conservation programs, classes and camps to inform young children on the importance of animals, conservation classes and much more.

California State University Sacramento

California State University Sacramento is located in Sacramento, California and is also referred to as Sacramento State or Sac State. This public university is under the California State University system. Initially the university was known as Sacramento State College when it was established in 1947.

During Sacramento travel, you will find that the campus of the university is quite large; in fact the campus is the sixth-largest campus among the 23 California state universities and is spread over 300 acres. You will also love the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, which is among the best rowing facilities of the country. Students and community members are offered classes in boating as well as several other water sports.

As far as athletics are concerned, Sac State has the Hornet mascot and comes with green and gold colors. Students of the university take part in the NCAA Division in the Big Sky Conference. Students participate in sports like basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, as well as indoor and outdoor track and field.

Students also are part of various clubs and organizations such as Accounting Society, Athletic Training Club, Cycling Team, Martial Arts Club, Water Ski Team, Campus Crusade for Christ, and Alpha Phi Omega. The students even run a newspaper called The State Hornet.

The university has its own buses, which are popular as Hornet Express shuttles. These shuttles work in harmony with Sacramento Regional Transit District to travel long distances to and from the campus. Plans for a bus-rapid transit system are also in process which will pass through the university campus, to light rail and to the apartment complexes in proximity.
